Declaration of rice purchases becomes mandatory for traders

New Delhi, Dec 6 (UNI) The Central government today issued an order making it mandatory for the traders or trading companies to submit return for puchasing of paddy or in terms rice in excess to 10,000 tonnes during the Kharif season from October 2007 to September 2008.

The order which invokes Section 3 of the Essential Commodities Act 1955 asked the purchaser to submit return to food departments of the states from where the maximum rice had been bought. The return form and the intervals for the submission of such Forms will be specified by the central government.

In case of purchase of paddy or rice exceeds 25,000 metric tonnes (total purchases made throughout the country), the return in the Form at intervals specified there in shall be furnished to the Under Secretary (Policy-III), Department of Food and Public distribution, located in Krishi Bhawan here.

The concerned state governments with which the returns are filed by any company or firm or individual declaring purchase of paddy or in terms of rice in excess of 10,000 MT shall submit a consolidated monthly report to the Under Secretary (Py-III), Department of Food and Public Distribution by the tenth of every month.
