All India Police Hockey from Dec 8

Jalandhar, Dec 6 (UNI) Punjab Police would be organising the 56th All India Police Hockey Championship-2007 at Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium here from December 8th to 16th.

This was disclosed by Organising Secretary of the Championship, Inspector General of Police H S Dhillon, while talking to media persons today.

In all, 22 teams from all over the country consisting of 500 participants of the national and international repute including Gaganajit Singh, Jugraj Singh, Tejbir Singh, Kanwalpreet Singh and Daljit Singh Dhillon would be participating in this championship, he said adding that all the umpires for the championship would be from IHF's panel.

For the first time, Punjab Police is also introducing prizes in six categories including Best Field Goal Scorer, Best Forward, Best Penalty Corner Converter, Best Defender (Full Back), Best Half Back and Best Goal Keeper.

A fair play trophy for the best disciplined team of the championship has also been introduced.

Mr Dhillon said that IHF has been requested to allot one exhibition match of Premier Hockey League to Jalandhar also and he hoped the plea would be accepted soon.
