8 crushed to death in Deoria

Deoria, Dec 6 (UNI) At least eight people, including three children, were crushed to death and five others critically injured, when a truck dashed into a roadside hut in the Salempur locality here today.

The overloaded truck overturned and rammed inside a hut near Naval roundabout crushing the people sleeping there early this morning, principal secretary (home) J N Chamber said.

The injured were rushed to a closeby district hospital in a serious condition.

Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh government announced an ex-gratia of Rs one lakh each to family of the deceased, while Rs 50,000 each to those grievously injured.

The Deoria DM had been directed to provide house to the deceased's kin under the housing scheme.

Earlier, nine deaths had been reported in the accident.
