SQM ties with Enmas to offer new PG course

Tiruchirapallii, Dec 5 (UNI) The School of Quality Management (SQM), an ISO 9001:2000 certified institution at Gundur near here, has joined hands with Chennai-based Enmas Operation and Maintenance Services Private Limited to offer a new 'Post Graduate Diploma in Thermal Power Plant Operation and Maintenance'.

In a statement here today, SQM Director A Ramachandran said the course was designed to generate manpower for operation and maintenance in thermal power plants where there was an acute shortage of qualified staff.

Students joining the course would find ready jobs not only in various thermal power plants in the country but also in cement, sugar and textile manufacturing units where boilers had been installed, he added.

He said on a pilot basis, ten engineering graduates had been chosen to undergo six months of theoretical training at the SQM.

Enmas would sponsor the course fee and also provide them practical exposure with stipend during the latter part of the programme.

The company had decided to absorb all the candidates at the end of the training, he said, adding, the intake would be enhanced to 30 from the next batch.

He said the SQM, functioning as a 'Correspondence Education Centre' of the Indian Institution of Quality Assurance, had been offering Diploma in Quality Control, Post Graduate Diploma in Quality Assurance, Post Graduate Diploma in Total Quality Management, Post Graduate Diploma in Software Quality and Post Graduate Diploma in Project Management.

Two SQM courses, Post Graduate Diploma in Quality Management and Diploma in Quality Engineering, were being offered with affiliation from Bharathidasan University, he said.
