No need for lowering guard on borders: Chaman Gupta

Jammu, Dec 5 (UNI) Former Union Minister and senior BJP leader Chaman Lal Gupta today stressed the need to take remedial measures instead of lowering the guard under internal and external pressures.

Addressing a public meeting at bordering village Hiranagar, some 60 km from here, Prof Gupta said ceasefire was a result of great diplomatic skill of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's NDA government at the Centre.

''The ceasefire has benefited the people of both sides of the borders and the LoC. But the reports about war-like preparations and increase in infiltration bids is a matter of concern for the border residents,'' the former minister of state for defence said.

However, Prof Gupta expressed serious concern over the reports about the movement of Pakistani troops in forward areas coupled with the increasing bids of infiltration and incidents of firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in violation of the cease-fire.
