Kozhikode, Dec 5 (UNI) Journalists and non-journalists in Kerala will observe a 24-hour fast in the state capital, Thiruvananthapuram, on December 17 demanding immediate release of interim relief for newspaper employees in the country.

The decision was taken during a two-day Northern Region Trade Union Camp, organised by the Kerala Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ), which concluded here today, a release said.

The Kerala Newspaper Employees Federation (KNEF) also announced its decision to join the fast.

The employees were forced to go on agitation as the government had 'failed' to announce interim relief despite formation of a Wage Board headed by Justice Narayana Kurup to revise the pay and allowances, the release said.

The concluding session was inaugurated by former KUWJ president C Gauridasan Nair. Union leaders N P Rajendran, P P Saseendran, N Padmanabhan and Kamal Varadoor spoke on the occasion.
