International seminar on drug addicts held
agra, Dec 5 (UNI) An international seminar under the aegis of Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) was held here taking cognisance of the soaring number of drug addicts leading to smuggling of psychotropic substances.
In a report submitted at the seminar yesterday, statistics of drug addicts, between the age group of 14 to 65 years, was stated.
The number of cannabis, heroin and morphine addicts was sharply going up day-by-day, the report added.
It was observed that a check on drug smuggling was also necessary to fight terrorism.
Smuggling of psychotropic substances is active in Afgansithan border surrounding countries, comprising Uzbekistan, Tazakistan, Turkistan and Iran, the report added stating that the drugs are smuggled across the world through these countries.
Almost 18,000 metric tonnes cannabis were produced in Afganisthan this year and supplied to European and American countries. The funds gathered from their sale are used for funding various terrorist activities.
