'Eternity' of Buddhadeb Saha of WB wins national photo contest

New Delhi, Dec 5 (UNI)'Eternity, a photograph by Mr Buddhadeb Saha from Burdwan, West Bengal has got the first Prize in the National Photographic Competition for amateur photographers organised by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs in collaboration with the Photo Division, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

The second and third prize have gone to Sailesh Nigam of Rewa, Madhya Pradesh and Pranabendu Samajpati of Kolkata respectively for their photographs 'Sound of Heart' and 'World Cup II'.

The Jury did not find any entry suitable for the special talent award for the Best Tribal Photographer.

The Photo Division conducted the photo competition for the Ministry of Tribal Welfares on the theme Joyful Tribals. A total of 1949 photographs were received from the 322 photographers from 23 States including the states of northeast like Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Sikkim and also other states like Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, New Delhi, Orissa, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamilnadu, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

The Jury comprised eminent photographer Michael Shylla from Meghalayla, Debatosh Sengupta, Director, Photo Division, and Gautam Budha Mukherjee, Secretary, Tribal Affairs.

An exhibition of award winning as well as selected photographs got underway at Rabindra Bhawan, Copernicus Marg here today.
