Tribal youths rescue wounded barking deer
Shillong, Dec 4 (UNI) Four tribal youths in Meghalaya were rewarded today for rescuing and providing medical aid to a wounded female barking deer.
The barking deer came down to Lawsohtun locality of Shillong from a forest area and was spotted by the youths at around 0830 hrs.
''We wanted to save the deer, apprehending that people might kill it,'' said T Nongkynrih, who took the initiative to rush the barking deer to the nearest veterinary hospital.
The deer was handed over to the wildlife officials after a veterinarian-applied ointment on the wounded parts of the deer.
The animal was also taken to a Shillong Civil hospital for an x-ray.

been
sheltered
at
the
Lady
Hydari
Park,
which
acts
as
rescue
home
for
wild
stray
animals,
while
the
forest
department
rewarded
Rs
1,200
for
their
noble
gesture
