Tension prevails over desecration of Ambedkar Statue

Gulbarga Dec 4 (UNI) Tension prevailed in Jewargi town, 40 km from here, following desecration of Ambedkar statue by unidentified persons, as a large number of dalits resorted to rasta roko and pelting of stones on passing vehicles demanding the arrest of perpetrators.

According to the police, some unidentified miscreants put chappels on the statue of Ambedkar. After noticing this, large number the irate dalits converged at the statue and resorted rasta roko.

They hurled stones at two buses damaging the wind screens. The traffic at the Bangalore-Gulbarga State Highway came to a standstill due to the road blockade.

Meanwhile, dalits led by Dalit Sangarsh Samithi(S) Sagar, took out a procession to the Deputy Commissioner's office demanding arrest of the culprits.

Later, the dalit activists converged at the bus stand and staged demonstration, disrupting vehicle traffic.

UNI
