Chandigarh, Dec 4 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today called upon foreign investors and multi-national companies to invest in Punjab saying the state government was committed to herald industrialisation in a big way and would extend a red carpet welcome to them.

Speaking during a visit to PHD Chamber International Trade Expo (PHD ITEX)-2007 organised here in collaboration with Punjab Government, Mr Badal said that in view of the present global economic scenario, the time was not very far off when trade and commerce alone would set the economic agenda and Punjab, being a border state, would be immensely benefitted through bilateral trade with Pakistan.

Citing an example of free entry between United States and Canada, Mr Badal expressed hope that one day it would be replicated here also thereby bringing an end to visa regime in India and Pakistan.

While appreciating the efforts of PHD chamber of Commerce and Trade, Mr Badal said that such trade fairs could offer an ideal opportunity to the prospective investors and entrepreneurs to promote their ventures.

He said that Punjab was known for its economic entrepreneurship and it had been proved time and again that Punjab's economy had inner strength to overcome political, social and economic hurdles.

Later, Mr Badal accompanied by the senior officers of the Punjab government and office bearers of the PHD Chamber visited the stalls put by the exhibitors from Pakistan, Malaysia, Switzerland, Myanmar, Vietnam, Poland and Kenya and briefly interacted with them.
