Coimbatore, Dec 4 (UNI) CPI state Secretary T Pandian today said Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi should attend the meeting with Kerala Chief Minister V S Achutnanandan only after an assurance from the Kerala government that they would implement the Supreme Court verdict on Mullaiperiyar dam issue.

Talking to newspersons here, he said even after the Supreme Court verdict, the Kerala government had not increased the storage level in the dam.

Mr Pandian alleged that the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister was closing down the medical students' hostels only to please PMK founder leader Ramadoss.

He said instead of appointing 40,000 doctors in the vacant posts in rural areas, Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss was making the students work in rural areas for one year during their course.

The students should withdraw their agitations, since Mr Karunanidhi had written a letter to the Centre on this issue, he said.

On the frequent power failure in the state, he said the government was providing uninterrupted power and water supply to multinational companies. This shows that there was no shortage of power in the state, he alleged.

He would meet Mr Karunanidhi to urge him to bring out an alternate plan for the Coimbatore Airport expansion, as it was not fair to demolish the existing houses and schools for the purpose, Mr Pandian said.

Stating that the Centre had failed to check the prices of essential commodities, he said it had also failed to introduce the Women's Reservation Bill in Parliament.

Over two lakh farmers committed suicide in the country due to the wrong policies of the Centre, he alleged.
