50,000 disabled persons to be covered under Orissa Pension scheme

Bhubaneswar, Dec 4 (UNI) Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced to include 50,000 disabled persons under the state pension scheme.

Addressing a function organised by the Women and Child Development department to celebrate the International Disabled Day here yesterday, the Chief Minister said pension would be provided to disable persons from January, 2008.

Recently, the government has named the state pension scheme as the Madhu Babu scheme after Madhusudan Das, a great social reformer and freedom fighter.

Six lakh aged, widowed and disabled persons are already receiving a monthly pension of Rs 200 under the scheme and the Chief Minister had announced to add another three lakh beneficiaries under the scheme.
