2 naxals killed in encounter in Gadchiroli
Nagpur, Dec 4 (UNI) Two Naxalites were killed in an encounter with police in Gadchiroli district in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra today.
The encounter took place when a group of Naxalites, who lay in wait, opened indiscriminate firing on a police patrol party, carrying out a combing operation in the forest near village Zarewada in Etapalli tehsil of the region this afternoon. The patrol party returned the fire, and the exchange continued for nearly two hours, police sources said.
The Naxalites then escaped into the jungle and managed to take away with them the bodies of the two gang members killed in the encounter, the sources said. One policeman sustained minor injuries in the exchange and was admitted to a hospital.
The police later recovered a rifle and 20 kg of explosives from the spot.
