Governor greets Indian Navy on eve of Navy Day

Gandhinagar, Dec 3 (UNI) Gujarat Governor Nawal Kishore Sharma has extended his best wishes and compliments to all officers, sailors and civilians of the Indian Navy for their professionalism, dedication and selfless devotion for the motherland on the occasion of 'Navy Day' tomorrow.

In his message, the Governor said 'Navy Day' was observed on December 4 every year to commemorate the successful attack by the Indian Navy on Karachi harbour in 1971, which culminated into a decisive victory of India over Pakistan.

''This is the day to remind ourselves of the selfless devotion and sacrifices made by the past generations, who painstakingly built the Navy of today by keeping pace with the high technological advances- so as to safeguard the defence and the maritime interests of our nation'', he said.

The Governor further said the Indian Navy had always been engaged in building its capabilities to meet new challenges. Gujarat is proud to have the premier electrical training establishment, INS Vaksura at Jamnagar, where the personnel of the the Indian Navy as well as those from many friendly foreign Navies are being trained in the fields of electricals/electronics/computers and weapons, he added.

Since the last 60 years, the Navy has conducted exercises with friendly Navies of foreign countries. The recently-concluded 'Malabar Exercise' has increased the interoperability between India and other foreign Navies, he added.
