Girl commits suicide, 2 die in accident, 13 shops gutted in Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 3 (UNI) A girl committed suicide while two persons were killed in road accidents and 13 shops gutted in a devastating fire in the Kashmir valley.

Official sources today said the girl Shameema, consumed some poisonous substance at her house at Khumriyal. She was rushed to a hospital where she died.

Despite a fatwa by muslim ulmas against committing suicide, the trend of taking such extreme steps continues in the Kashmir valley.

More than 30 people, mostly women, have taken the streme step during the past six months in the valley.

In another incident, official sources said a three wheeler hit and critically wounded 65-year-old Rehman Batoo at Karan Nagar in the downtown today. He was admitted to nearby SMHS hospital where he died.

One Mehraj-uddin Shah was injured when a vehicle hit him at Pernia on the Baramulla-Uri road. He died on way to hospital.

The sources said 13 shops and a cowshed were gutted in a devastating fire at main bazaar at Dangiwacha early this morning.

The cause of the fire was not known.
