Governor pays tribute to gas tragedy victims

Bhopal, Dec 2 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Governor Balram Jakhar today paid tributes to the victims of 1984 Bhopal Gas Tragedy -- which claimed several thousands of lives and maimed lakhs of people -- on the occasion of its 23rd anniversary.

Dr Jakhar prayed for quick recovery of those still undergoing mental and physical traumas of poisonous gas leak from the Union Carbide plant on the intervening night of December 2-3, 1984.

In his message, he said all possible efforts should be undertaken to console and comfort gas victims, an official release said here today.

He stressed on the need for undertaking measures to mitigate sufferings of gas victims and resolve their problems related to economic rehabilitation, health and neat and safe drinking water, the release added.
