Rahul Gandhi lays foundation of BHEL's expansion plans

Jagdishpur, Sultanpur, Dec 2: AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi today laid foundation stone of two Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) units costing a total of Rs 306 crores in his Parliamentary constituency of Amethi.

The two units are part of PSU major's capacity expansion plans to increase production of components by 15,000 MW per annum in next two years. The two units would provide direct and indirect employment to over 1000 people.

While one unit would fabricate equipment for super thermal power plants, the other would produce electrical machine components.

To cost Rs 212 crore, the fabrication plant would get fully operation in the next three years.

The annual capacity of the fabrication plant would be 25,000 metric tonne (MT) and the equipment produced would cater to power plants in Tiruchapalli, Bhopal and Haridwar.

The central stamping unit would come up at a proposed cost of Rs 94 crore and would produce electrical machine components.

Secretary in the Union ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Dr R P Panda and CMD of BHEL Ashok K Puri were also present on the occasion.
