Goa joins national fight against HIV/AIDS

Panaji, Dec 1 (UNI) Goa had taken the pledge to reinforce global efforts at fighting the HIV/AIDS while observing the ''World Aids Day'' today.

The day was marked with the conduct of a blood donation camp and a function at the Porvorim secretariat complex presided over by health minister Viswajeet Rane where the authorities took pledge to fight the scourge.

As many as 914 HIV/AIDS cases had been reported in Goa since 1986. They included 647 males and 267 females.

The authorities had last year detected 81 AIDS cases and the equal number this year till October.

The state recorded 394 AIDS related deaths during 1993-2007 including 272 men and 132 women.
