Dr Gangan Pratap appointed new CUSAT vice-chancellor

Kochi, Dec 1 (UNI) Renowned scientist Dr Gangan Pratap has been appointed as the 11th vice-chancellor of the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT).

Before his appointment as the CUSAT vice-chancellor, Dr Pratap was serving as the head of the Centre for Mathematical Modelling and Computer Simulation, an institute under the CSIR, at Bangalore, a CUSAT release said here today.

He was awarded the prestigious Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar Puraskar for outstanding contribution to science in 1990.

Dr Pratap, 56, hails from Mayyanad in Kollam district of Kerala.

After getting his early education at Singapore, Dr Pratap did B.Tech from IIT, Madras, in Aero-Engineering and passed out with distinction and first rank. Later, he got his doctorate from the same institution in 1978.

He is the author of more than 300 books and research papers.

Dr Pratap is married to a sociologist Latha Sukumaran and has one son.
