Congress backtracks on Dariapur-Kazipur, LJP's Gurjar in fray
Ahmedabad, Dec 1 (UNI) The Congress today withrdew its candidate Surendra Rajput in favour of Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) candidate Mukesh Gurjar for Dariapur-Kazipur constituency.
Today was the last day of withdrawal of nominations for the second phase of the elections.
Dariapur-Kazipur was a bone of contention between alliance partners, Congress and LJP, since both had fielded their candidates.
Though the seat was given to LJP, Congress had taken the stand that LJP should first withdraw its other candidates. But, due to hardening stance of the LJP, the Congress allowed Mr Rajput to go ahead and file the nomination. But after the compromise, the LJP candidate, Mukesh Gurjar, would remain in the fray.
Mr Gurjar's is the only seat that has been given to LJP by the Congress, which has also intimated to the election officer.
