Coal shortage threatens closure of super thermal station

Kahalgaon, Dec 1(UNI) Closure threat on Kahalgaon Super Thermal Power unit looms large as Rajmahal collieries of Eastern Coalfields Limited(ECL) was not supplying the required quantity of coal for commercial production of electricity.

General Manager of Kahalgaon Super Thermal Power Station I Dutta told UNI that twenty to twentytwo thousand tonnes of coal was required per day for commercial production of power at its all the four units but coal supply from Rajmahal collieries was only 14,000.

''Only 14000 tonnes of coal is in stock and if the situation continues like this, the decision to close one unit of the 210 MW thermal power station would have to be taken,'' he said, adding steps were being taken for another 510 MW unit of the thermal station.
