Burundi national among two nabbed with 10 kg heroin

Chandigarh, Dec 1 (UNI) Narcotic Control Bureau nabbed two people, including a man from Republic of Burundi and seized ten kg of heroin from their possession here today.

Narcotic Control Bureau Zonal Director Saji Mohan said that on a tip-off, the two accused, identified as Paramjit Singh of Amritsar and Festus Benson Qnwuchuruba of Burundi were intercepted at the Grain Market while they were carrying the heroin from Amritsar to Chandigarh in a car.

According to Mr Mohan, the seized heroin worth Rs ten crore in the international market.

Mr Mohan said Singh was arrested earlier in 1998 in New Delhi for carrying one kg heroin and was sentenced to seven-year- impriosnment.

He was in Tihar jail till 2005, but he absconded while let out on parole.

The other accused, Festus Benson came to India last year on a student visa. He was based in Mumbai but used to make regualr visits to Delhi, where he came into contact with Paramjit.

A case was registerd against the duo under various sections of the NDPS Acts, Mr Mohan said.
