Bhopal Gas tragedy: Next hearing on Dec 22

Bhopal, Dec 1 (UNI) Chief Judicial Magistrate Ajay Srivastava's court today fixed the next date of hearing on December 22 on applications filed by three voluntary organisations in a criminal case related to the 1984 Bhopal Gas tragedy, which claimed thousands of lives and maimed several lakhs of people.

In their applications, these voluntary organisations, which are working for gas tragedy victims, urged re-investigation of the matter by the CBI and recalling of witnesses.

Additional Solicitor General Mohan Parasaran, Assistant Special Public Prosecutor and advocate C Sahay were present on the behalf of prosecution.

Accused S I Qureshi and K V Shetty did not appear before the court. Both submitted an application for not being able to be present in the court. The application was accepted.

On the intervening night of December 2-3, 1984, thousands died after inhaling methyl isocyanate while several lakh persons continue to suffer the deleterious effect of inhaling the deadly vapours.
