Wheat, rice, oilseeds and pulses Rabi acreage lower than last year

New Delhi, Nov 30 (UNI) Wheat has been sown in 146 lakh hectare till now in the present Rabi sowing season as compared to the 80 lakh hectare at the end of last week, while it is yet low as compared to 180 lakh hectare during the corresponding period last year.

Winter rice sowing has just started in some southern States. So far, 1.47 lakh hectare area has come under the rice plantation, as per data compiled by Agriculture Ministry.

Coarse cereals have been sown in 54.21 lakh hectare as compared to 58.36 lakh hectare by this time in 2006.

Rabi oilseeds have been sown in 69.7 lakh hectare as against 81.31 hectare in the last rabi. Mustard/rapeseed coverage has reached 52.76 lakh hectare (last rabi, upto this time 61.31 lakh hectare.

Rabi pulses have so far covered 91.55 lakh hectare as compared to 93.87 lakh hectare last year.
