Tight security in Chennai City area after e-mail threat

Chennai, Nov 30 (UNI) The upmarket K K Nagar Area in the city has come under a thick blanket of security with the deployment of more than 250 police personnel following an e-mail warning of possible terror attacks in the area today.

Strict vigil was being maintained at temples, mosques, churches, hotels, hospitals and theatres.

Several schools in the area declared a holiday. Check posts were set up in all important places and night patrolling strengthened.

The English TV channel recently received the e-mail stating bombs would go off in Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata on November 30 if the Pakistan Cricket Team continued to play in India. It mentioned K K Nagar in particular.

Police teams instructed residents of the area to be cautious with sales representatives and any newcomer and exercise care with any parcel kept on the roadside.

The teams also went to the schools and advised principals and teachers to be cautious. Students were instructed not to bring tiffin boxes.

They asked the school authorities to allow students inside the campus only after a thorough check. Strict vigil would continue till tomorrow.
