Thermal power plants facing coal shortage: Shinde

New Delhi, Nov 30 (UNI) The thermal power stations in the country were facing shortage of coal supply with 29 such stations having critical stock of less than seven days as on November 27, Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde informed the Lok Sabha today.

''Of these, 15 stations are super critical having a stock of less than four days,'' Mr Shinde said in a written reply.

He said the all India stock at power stations was 8.689 MT against the normative requirement of about 22 MT.

He said several gas-based power plants were also facing shortage of gas to generate power to their capacity.

Against a gas requirement of 65.69 MMSCMD for 90 per cent plant load factor as on October 31, the average gas supply during April-October 2007 was 35.82 MMSCMD.

X X X TEHRI DAM: The Tehri Hydro Development Corporation Ltd had spent Rs 1,232.35 crore up to October this year on rehabilitation and resettlement of Tehri Dam affected people in Uttarakhand, Mr Shinde said.
