Temperatures dip in HP after rain and snow

Shimla, Nov 30 (UNI) Piercing cold wave conditions are prevailing in Himachal Pradesh following rain and sleet in Shimla town and other surrounding areas and mild snowfall in the higher altitude areas of Chamba and Kullu districts of the state today.

The Met office said minimum and maximum temperatures plummeted across the state today following mild snowfall in the higher altitude areas and rains at isolated in mid hills of the state.

Overcast conditions are prevailing at almost all other places in the state since this morning.

The minimum temperature at Shimla plummeted to 4.8 degree Celsius as against 6.2 degree Celsius recorded yesterday after intermittent light showers and sleet accompanied by piercing cold winds.

Rohtang Pass, situated at about 13,050 feet, also known as the gateway to Lahual Spiti, and other higher altitude areas and passes in Kullu district are also experiencing snowfall since 1530 hrs.

The met office said overcast conditions are prevailing in the twin tribal districts of Kinnuar and Lahaul Spiti where the minimum temperatures have fallen below freezing point at several places.

Chander Tall and Neel Kanth lakes in Lahaul Spiti district besides several natural water sources have frozen to the extreme cold conditions in the district.

The night temperature at Kalpa in Kinnuar district fell to minus 0.7 as against 1.9 degree Celsius recorded yesterday, while Sundernagar recorded minimum temperature of 3.8, Bhuntar three, Dharamshala 10.5, Una 6.5 and Manali three degree Celsius respectively.

The met office has predicted more rain and snow at many places in the state during the next 24 hrs.
