'NHRC intervention must in Assam violence'

Itanagar, Nov 30: Lok Sabha MP from Arunachal Pradesh Kiren Rijiju has sought the intervention of National Human Rights Commission(NHRC) into the recent violence in Guwahati, following a protest dharna by All Adivasi Students' Association of Assam.

In a letter to the NHRC chairman, the MP said there were incidents of uncontrollable violence in the state with cases of serious human rights violation.

''Women were being stripped, beaten and molested in Assam which had rattled the conscience of human morality and dignity of women, who occupy high status in the region,'' the MP said in the letter.

''The situation demands immediate enquiry and strong action against the perpetrators of the incidents,'' he pleaded to the NHRC chief.
