Life affected following JMM-called bandh in Mayurbhanj
Baripada, Nov 30 (UNI) The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-sponsored dawn-to-dusk "Orissa Bandh" to protest the attack on tribals in Guwahati paralysed life in Mayurbhanj district today.
Movement of vehicular traffic on the Chennai-Kolkata National Highway Number 5 and Mumbai-Kolkata National Highway Number 6 passing through the district was brought to a grinding halt.
Bus services on local and inter-state routes and train services on Baripada-Rupsa broad gauge route were also affected due to the bandh.
State and Central government offices, judicial and executive courts, post offices, Banks, shops and commercial establishments were closed due to picketing by the JMM activists.
Mayurbhanj MP Sudam Marandi, also the president of the Orissa JMM and Mayurbhanj JMM president Bhadhav Chandra Hansda led the demonstration before the government offices.
The JMM claimed the bandh a total success in Mayurbhanj, considered the bastion of the party in the state.
A report from Rourkela said some parts of Sundargarh district also observed bandh peacefully.
