Insurance official jailed for 5 yrs

Jabalpur, Nov 30 (UNI) A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court today sentenced an insurance company's branch manager to five years in prison and a fine of Rs 6,000 for accepting a bribe of Rs 1,500 from a shop owner in return for handing over a fire claim cheque of Rs 26,700.

Special Judge K K Tripathy awarded the punishment to the United India Insurance's Seoni office Manager Mohanbabu Saxena who was caught redhanded while accepting the bribe at his office from Miss India Beauty Collection's Rajendra Tiwari.

The CBI's Senior Public Prosecutor Akshay Gautam submitted that the fire broke out in the shop in May 2005. The bribe was demanded on May 26. Mr Tiwari complained to the CBI office here and the arrest was executed later that day under the Anti-Corruption Act.
