Big temple in Thanjavur to get a facelift
Thanjavur, Nov 30 (UNI) The Big temple built by King Raja Raja Chola in the tenth century, will get a facelift as part of the government's tourism development programme.
According to official sources here, the tourism department had alotted Rs 4.27 crore for the development of the temple premises in view of the increasing number of tourists visiting the historical temple, which had been listed as the National Heritage Monument by the UNESCO.
The Thanjavur District Collector, Archeological Survey of India (ASI) Superintendent, Tourism Development officers and Municipal Authorities visited the temple in connection with the works on November 28.
The ASI had already taken up repair works of the temple, the sources said.
