Bail granted to city-based lawyer in dowry related case
Shillong, Nov 30 (UNI) A local court has granted bail to a city-based lawyer and his mother in connection with the death of a woman in a dowry-related case.
Lawyer Kiran Barua's wife Saraswati, a teacher, had allegedly attempted self-immolation on Tuesday as her parents failed to give dowry as demanded by her husband.
She succumbed to burns at a private hospital the next day.
The Additional Magistrate of East Khasi Hills district had remanded Mr Barua to two days' police custody. His mother was sent to judicial custody before being released on bail yesterday, the police said.
