19 lawyers sentenced to 6 months for violating prohibitory order

New Delhi, Nov 30 (UNI) A city court today sentenced 19 lawyers including then secretary of Delhi Bar Association to six months imprisonment for striking work and having violated prohibitory orders.

Metropolitan Magistrate Sandeep Yadav released them on bail bonds submitted by them during the trial.

The lawyers of Delhi's Tis Hazari Court went on strike in 2005 protesting the shifting of court to newly built Rohini Court from there.

The Delhi High Court had declared the strike illegal. On February 11, 2005, lawyers had taken out a procession violating the prohibitory order under Section 144 CrPc.

As many as 19 lawyers were arrested under Maurice Nagar police station. They had subsequently refused to be released on bail and spent six days in prison.
