Stage artist GGururaja-ururaja Rao passes away
Bangalore, Nov 29 (UNI) Prof Gururaja Rao, a pioneer who ensured the growth of Kannada theatre in Karnataka, passed away here last night.
He was 95.
A contemporary of eminent drama writers from the state like K V Puttappa popularly known as Kuvempu, N Kasturi and Parvathavani, Prof Rao was also responsible for introducing drama as a programme in the All India Radio.
Prof Rao strove for spreading the theatre culture in the state by introducing a number of dramas and he himself had acted in some of those plays. A recipient of State Nataka Academy award in 1981, Prof Rao had retired as English Professor of Mysore University.
