Kerala HC upholds state govt.'s abkari policy
Kochi, Nov 29 (UNI) The Kerala high court today upheld the Abkari policy, 2007-08, of the state government under which cooperative societies were permitted to run toddy shops in certain areas of the state.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice H L Dattu and Justice K T Sankaran allowed the writ appeal filed by the state government against the order of a single judge, who had partially stayed the abkari policy.
The division bench observed that the court will not interfere in the policy decision of the government.
The Government had earlier decided to entrust running of toddy shops in Kannur and Kozhikode districts and various ranges of Ernakulam and Kasargode districts to workers cooperative societies.
