Nashik, Nov 29 (UNI) Consular General of Israel in India Daniel Zohr Zoneshine today expressed his country and government's willingness for research collaboration, especially in the agricultural sector.

Expressing the need for collaboration, Mr Zoneshine said, ''Indian and Israeli companies should come together and work for improvement in agriculture and to use the vast potential in India.

We are ready to collaborate for this.'' He was speaking at the inaugural function of the ''Krishi 2007'' and international agriculture trade fair and conference here today.

Earlier, Mr Zoneshine explained how Israel had become a leading agricultural country and the efforts behind this progress.

''Despite being a small nation (half the size of Kerala) and having adverse conditions for agriculture, we decided to make progress in agriculture. For this, we did a lot of research which enabled us to develop new technology that has led to the present position of Israel,'' he said.

Mr Zoneshine said that this had not happened in a day. New technology needs adaptation and certain duration. But the right decision and vision can make things happen, he pointed out.

Maharashtra Council for Agriculture Research vice president Vijay Kolte, speaking on the occasion, stressed the need for educated youth to take up agriculture as a profession.

The exhbition has been organised jointly by Media Exhibitors and Maharashtra Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (MACCIA).

The exhibition will be held till December 3.
