HC dismisses petition filed by 4 girls seeking security

Chennai,Nov 29 (UNI) The Madras High Court today dismissed a petition filed by four Hindu girls, who had converted to Islam, demanding police protection.

Justice K Mohanram dismissed the petition filed by the girls-- Lokeshwari (22), her sisters K Ambika (20) and Sharmila (19) and their friend Kalaiselvi (20) stating there was no need to order a police protection as they faced no threat.

The Judge passed the order after hearing the girls and their parents in-camera last week.

The girls, who had converted to Islam while working in a rice mill in Thanjavur district, approached the court seeking police protection.

They said they were forced to come to the city, fearing threat to their lives as their parents had lodged a complaint with the police, alleging that they were forcibly converted to Islam.

The girls had submitted in the petition that they embraced Islam on their own will and volition and that their decision was not due to any inducement or coercion from any quarters.
