Govt withdraws proposal of hiking bus fares

Hyderabad, Nov 29 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Government today withdrew the proposal of hiking bus fares in the stated-owned Road Trasnport Corporation (APSRTC), Transport Minister K Laxminarayana has said.

Briefing newpersons after a review meeting on the performance of APSRTC with the officials concerned and the minister, presided over by Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy at the Secretariat, Mr Laxminarayana said the Chief Minister had rejected the proposal for increasing bus fares by the Executive Committee of the Corporation.

He said Dr Reddy directed the RTC officials to improve the efficiency of their functions and not to burden the passengers.

The Chief Minister also instructed the officials to submit an 'action plan' in a week to strengthen it further, the minister said.

Later, APSRTC Chairman Dinesh Reddy announced that the Corporation would hike the bus fares after consulting the Chief Minister last month to acquire more funds to meet the increasing expenditure.
