Gandhinagar, Nov 29 (UNI) With a view to holding free and fair assembly elections in Gujarat, the Election Commission (EC) has decided to appoint Micro-Observers (MOs) for co-ordination of election machinery.

These MOs will be appointed from the Central Government employees of Class-1 and Class-2 categories working in various offices in the state, an official release said.

They will work under directives of the general observers, who have been recently appointed by the EC, for all the 182 constituencies of the state.

In case of non-availability of class-1 and class-2 employees, the class-3 employees can also be appointed as MOs.

These MOs will be appointed for sensitive polling booths and will be given photo-identity cards. However, they will not be given the duty of presiding or police officers of the polling booths, the release added.
