EC appoints 40 observers for HP elections

Shimla, Nov 29 (UNI) Election Commission of India has appointed forty observers for 65 assembly constituencies of Himachal Pradesh to ensure free and transparent election.

This includes thirty general observers and ten expenditure observers who will watch various aspects related to election process, Chief Electoral Officer Manisha Nanda said here yesterday.

She said in Shimla district two general observers and one expenditure observer, in Solan, Sirmour, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Una and Chamba district one general observer and one expenditure observer in each district and in Kangra district four general and two expenditure observers, in Kullu district one general observer and in Mandi district two general and one expenditure observers had been appointed.

Ms Nanda said various political parties could contact the election observers for any kind of complaint and violation of Model Code of Conduct. For the second phase of the election for the 65 assembly constituencies scrutiny for nomination would be held on December 1 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature would be December 3.
