City-based lawyer arrested in dowry death case
Shillong, Nov 29 (UNI) A city-based lawyer, Kiran Barua, was arrested for allegedly demanding dowry from his wife, who committed suicide, police said today.
They said the victim, Saraswati Barua, who allegedly tried to commit suicide by setting herself afire at her parents' house at Umpling on November 27, died at a private hospital yesterday.
The body was sent to the Shillong Civil Hospital for post-mortem, police added.
Police also recovered a suicide note from the house of Saraswati's parents.
A case was registered and arrest warrant issued against the victim's husband yesterday, police added.
