Action plan to promote use of renewable energy in the city

Chandigarh, Nov 29 (UNI) The Chandigarh Administration has framed a comprehensive action plan to promote use of renewable energy in the city.

The action plan includes installation of solar water heater system, solar photovoltaic energy programme, solar photovoltaic power plant and procuring of battery operated vehicles in the 'City Beautiful'.

All conventional incandescent lamps would be replaced by CFL's in all government buildings.

All Government buildings, including Raj Bhawan, UT Guest House and Government houses would be compulsorily provided with solar water heater system.

Street lights, powered by solar power, has been provisioned in areas where Government buildings, especially Raj Bhawan and UT Guest House are located. Solar Street lights would also be provided in villages.

Grid Interactive Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant would be installed at the Union Territory Secretariat. Ten battery operated vehicles would be procured by the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU). Conventional three-wheelers would be replaced by promoting Battery Operated three-wheelers.

The Administration is also in the process of finalising a plan for construction of super deluxe building in Sector 9, which would be designed as an eco-friendly building using renewable energy.
