Red Fort to get World Heritage Site status tomorrow
New Delhi, Nov 28 (UNI) The Red Fort will formally receive the status of World Heritage Site tomorrow from UNESCO Director General Koichiro Matsuura.
Mr Matsuura will hand over the certificate and unveil the plaque at a function on the lawns of the Diwan-i-Khas inside the 17th century fort.
The UNESCO Director General will be handing over the plaque to Culture Secretary Abhijit Sengupta in the presence of Tourism Secretary S Banerjee.
The fort will remain closed for general vistors tomorrow from 1230 hrs 1615 hrs because of the ceremony.
The decsiion to close the complex tomorow was taken by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) under rule 5 of The Aninent Monuments And Archacelogical Sites and Remains Rules, 1959.
