Medicos stir: Minister flays PMK's views on govt stand

Chennai, Nov 28 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Health Minister M R K Panneerselvam today flayed Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder leader S Ramadoss for his remarks against the DMK Government in connection with the strike by medicos and house surgeons in the state.

In a statement here, he dismissed as false the PMK leader's claim that the government had given its nod for the Centre's proposal to extend the MBBS course by one-year and now opposing the move holding hands with opposition AIADMK.

He said neither he nor his predecessor K K S S R Ramachandran had signed any files in this regard. Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, in a bid to end the strike, had offered to write to the Prime Minister and Union Health Minister and the government never tried to instigate the strike.

The Minister said the state government had no second opinion that doctors should serve in rural areas and the Chief Minister had only said that he would write to the Centre on the issue of extending the MBBS course to six-and-a-half years.
