JMM calls for Orissa bandh to protest attack on tribals

Baripada, Nov 28 (UNI) The Orissa state unit of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has given a call for a dawn-to-dusk Orissa bandh on November 30 to protest against the assault on tribals in Guhawati.

JMM leaders told reporters here that during the attack on the tribals, the police ''not only stood as passive onlookers but also took active part by obstructing those being attacked from running away from the attackers''.

''Such police-sponsored attack on tribals in a civilised country is unthinkable,'' JMM leader Bhadhav Chandra Hansda said.

He said the party had sent a memorandum to the President demanding a high level judicial inquiry into the incident, action against erring police officials, payment of adequate compensation and government jobs to the kins of the deceased tribals.
