12 hurt in stone pelting by mob in Punjab

Amritsar, Nov 28 (UNI) Twelve persons including the SP (City) and the SDM were injured following stone pelting by a group of demonstrators protesting the domolation of a roadside 'mazaar' by the Municipal Corporation (MC) in the Hussianpura locality of the city here today.

According to official reports, a number of protestors also sustained injuries when the police lathicharged them and lobbed tear gas shells.

The police was called in when the protestors got violent during the demonstration. When the agitators started pelting stones at the police, SDM Paramjit Singh ordered the cops to lathi charge them.

Amongst the injured were the SDM, SP (City) K Sharma and the SHO of Ram Bagh police station. The police had registered a case, however no arrests had been made so far.
