MSP hike for paddy; Farmers arrested in Delta region

Tiruchirapalli, Nov 27 (UNI) Thousands of peasants of various farmers association were taken into custody by police when they attempted to stage rail-bus-roko stirs at different places in the Cauvery Delta region of Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts.

The farmers demanded the Centre should hike the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for paddy to Rs 1,000 per quintal.

Police arrested hundreds of farmers at seven places in Pudukkottai districts when they attempted to lay siege to Central and State government offices.

Large number of farmers were taken into custody for attempting to resort to rail roko at the Railway Junction here for the same reason.
