New Delhi, Nov 27 (UNI) A BJP member's demand for immediate discussion on Assam following the statement of Home Minister Shivraj Patil led to din in the Lok Sabha today, forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House till 1330 hrs.

When Tapir Gao, BJP member from Arunachal Pradesh, sought immediate discussion on Mr Patil's statement informing the House as to what happened in Guwahati on Saturday, the Minister said he was engaged in the Rajya Sabha but would be ready to take questions anytime after his engagement there.

Earlier, BJP Deputy Leader V K Malhotra too sought immediate discussion in view of the alleged stripping of a tribal woman but sat down after Speaker Somnath Chatterjee appealed to the House to transact other business as the Minister had agreed to reply to questions of the members, five of whom had issued notices.

But when Parliamentary Affairs Minister P R Dasmunsi wondered as to why BJP members did not get agitated when situation similar to Assam prevailed in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, Mr Gao protested strongly. When Mr Dasmunsi's deputy B K Handik made some remarks which could not be heard in the din, Mr Gao reacted angrily and started walking towards Mr Handik amid uproar with several BJP members and Mr Dasmunsi on their feet. At this moment, the Speaker adjourned the House at 1224 hrs.
