Tiruchirapalli, Nov 26: Tamil Nadu Traders Federation President T Vellaiyan claimed the implementation of Value Added Tax (VAT) led to higher prices, especially those of essential commodities.

Speaking at a function here last night,he urged the Central and State Governments to reconsider and withdraw VAT besides banning online commodity trading which also led to soaring prices of essentials.

Citing Nandigram incidents, Mr Vellaiyan cautioned the governments on Special Economic Zones (SEZs) the establishment of which would hard-hit the famers and the public.
